A New Travel Authorization Requirement for Nigerians Visiting the United Kingdom.

Effective November 15, 2023, Nigerian travelers planning to visit the United Kingdom (UK) will need to adhere to a new travel requirement. This update applies to all individuals, including children, except for British and Irish citizens.

To enter or transit through the UK, travelers must now obtain an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA).

This applies to individuals who were previously eligible to visit the UK without a visa and are not already legally residing in the UK.

The ETA requirement extends to various categories of travelers, including those on visits lasting less than six months, business travelers, tourists, and those visiting family and friends. Prospective travelers must complete their ETA application online before making any travel arrangements to the UK. Once granted, the ETA will remain valid for multiple journeys over a period of two years or until the expiration of the passport used for the application, whichever occurs first.

The UK Home Office emphasizes that travelers with valid visas may be denied boarding if they do not possess a valid ETA, as the ETA is digitally linked to travelers’ passports.

In the words of the UK Home Office, “The UK travel requirements are changing. Except for British and Irish citizens, everyone, including children, who enter or transit through the UK will soon require permission before they travel.

This means that if you were previously eligible to visit the UK without a visa and are not already legally resident in the UK, you will need an electronic travel authorization (ETA).

Your stay must be shorter than six months and could include tourism or visiting family and friends, transit, business, and short-term study. You do not need to carry a paper copy of the ETA, but it may be advisable to keep the confirmation email for your records. While an ETA grants you permission to travel to the UK, it does not grant you entry. Therefore, you will still need to go through passport control at the border to gain entry into the UK.

Please ensure you present the same passport used for your ETA application and that your passport remains valid for the entirety of your stay.

This new travel requirement underscores the importance of preparing in advance for your visit to the United Kingdom, as failure to comply with the ETA requirement could result in travel disruptions. Stay informed and ensure a smooth journey by securing your Electronic Travel Authorization before your travel date.

  1. Being a Nigerian is a Test of faith.

Every country tightens their borders against Nigerian citizens.

What a shameless brainless leader we have in Nigeria.
