United Nigeria Airlines Encounters Runway Incident at Lagos Airport

 

 

 

An incident occurred at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport Lagos (MMIA) on Friday evening when a United Nigeria Airlines aircraft, carrying 51 passengers and a crew of four, skidded off the runway during a heavy rainfall.

 

The incident unfolded at approximately 6:48 PM on Runway L18, with challenging weather conditions prevailing at the airport. Promptly responding to the situation, the Aerodrome Rescue and Fire Fighting Service (ARFFS) of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) initiated rescue operations.

 

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Nigeria released a statement revealing that the United Nigeria Airlines aircraft, bearing the registration number 5NBWY, encountered difficulties while attempting to land amidst the heavy rain and strong winds at around 6:48 PM.”
