A Nigerian Air Force Aircraft Crashes While En Route to Niger State




An aircraft owned by the Nigerian Air Force has experienced a crash, according to sources. The incident took place on Monday as the aircraft was in the process of traveling from Kaduna to Minna, the capital of Niger state. Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, the NAF Director of Public Relations and Information, confirmed the occurrence in a statement on Monday. It was revealed that the aircraft had initially departed from Zungeru Primary School with its destination set as Kaduna. However, it was later discovered that the aircraft had crashed in a village within the Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger.


The statement stated, “A Nigerian Air Force MI-171 Helicopter, engaged in a casualty evacuation mission, crashed today, August 14, 2023, at approximately 1:00 pm in Chukuba Village, Niger State. The aircraft, which had taken off from Zungeru Primary School en route to Kaduna, was found to have crashed in the vicinity of Chukuba Village in the Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State.


Efforts are currently underway to rescue both the pilots and passengers who were on board. The statement concluded, “Ongoing efforts are focused on the rescue of the helicopter’s crew and passengers. Preliminary investigations are also in progress to determine the likely cause of the crash.
